Helstu verkefni sveitarstjóra frá síðasta fundi sveitarstjórnar hafa verið tengd undirbúningi framkvæmda 2024 og eins hefur talsverður tími farið í mál tengd sorphirðu. Það hefur valdið vonbrigðum að þjónustuaðila hefur ekki tekist að fylgja sorphirðudagatali og upplýsingagjöf til sveitarfélagsins hefur verið lítil þegar eitthvað hefur klikkað. Sveitarstjóri hefur verið í reglulegum samskiptum við þjónustuaðilann og kallað eftir því að upplýsingagjöf til sveitarfélagsins og íbúa verði stórbætt. Þannig stendur til að bæklingum verði dreift á öll heimili með greinargóðum leiðbeiningum um flokkun og fyrirkomulag sorphirðunnar og til stendur að fyrirtækið komi sér upp síðu á Facebook þar sem hægt verður að miðla upplýsingum til íbúa eftir þörfum. Óánægju hefur gætt meðal íbúa um þjónustuna og mikilvægt er að brugðist verði við með bættri upplýsingagjöf og að þjónustan standi undir væntingum og fylgt verði sorphirðudagatali.
Hafinn er undirbúningur útboða fyrir framkvæmdir ársins í samstarfi við skipulags- og byggingarfulltrúa og vonir standa til að hægt verði að senda út verðfyrirspurnir tímanlega með það að augnamiði að tryggja verktaka í verkin. Einhver verkefni eru á áætlun þessa árs sem ekki náðist að fá verktaka í á síðasta ári og þess vegna verður áhersla lögð á að útboðsgögn séu tilbúin tímanlega.
Endurbætur á aðbúnaði íþróttamiðstöðvar og sundlaugar hafa verið yfirstandandi undir verkstjórn æskulýðs- og tómstundafulltrúa. Nýjar yfirbreiðslur hafa verið settar á sundlaugarsvæði og nýjar klórdælur settar upp í lagnarými til þess að tryggja rétt klórmagn í vatni. Gámar fyrir tímabundna stækkun á líkamsrækt eru komnir og verða tengdir núverandi aðstöðu fljótlega. Ný hlaupabretti verða sett upp og tækjabúnaður á áhorfendapöllum fjarlægður þaðan. Verið er að undirbúa uppsetningu nýs myndavélakerfis til þess að tryggja betur öryggi sundlaugargesta. Ný varmadæla er kominn á staðinn og verður tengd von bráðar og vonir standa til að sú viðbót muni koma að mestu leyti í veg fyrir hitavandamál sem hafa komið upp. Það liggur þó fyrir að lagnakerfi sundlaugarsvæðisins er ekki nægilega gott og gera þarf áætlun um að bæta það til framtíðar ef að kerfið á að virka sem skyldi.
Starf tónskólans hefur farið vel af stað og í upphafi þessa árs eru 70 nemendur skráðir við skólann, sem er mikil fjölgun frá því sem verið hefur. Vel hefur gengið að ráða inn kennara við skólann og nýjasta viðbótin er píanókennari sem mun vera í hálfu starfi við skólann.
Tímabundið hefur þurft að skerða þjónustu við leikskólann vegna manneklu, en sú ákvörðun var tekið að höfðu samráði við foreldra barna skólans þar sem þeim voru kynntar mismunandi útfærslur og boðið að kjósa þá útfærslu sem hentaði best sem flestum. Vonir standa til að þessi skerðing muni ekki þurfa að vara lengur en 6 vikur en verið er að auglýsa eftir starfsfólki við skólann, þó að erfitt sé að spá fyrir um hversu vel gangi að ráða, einkum vegna skorts á íbúðarhúsnæði fyrir þá sem kynnu að vilja flytja í sveitarfélagið.
Flutningur á fyrsta áfanga nýs leikskóla hefur tafist sökum þess að gera þarf úrbætur á burðarvirki í hluta hússins til þess að það uppfylli kröfur vegna snjóálags. Flutningurinn er um þessar mundir alfarið háður veðri en vonir standa til að hægt sé að gera framangreindar úrbætur hratt og vel og að gluggi opnist veðurfarslega til að flytja húsið.
Viðræður hafa verið yfirstandandi við verktaka um framkvæmdir við leikskólalóð nýs leikskóla, en æskilegast er að sú vinna geti farið að mestu fram að sumri þegar skólinn er lokaður.
Sveitarfélagið og Húsnæðis- og mannvirkjastofnun ríkisins auglýstu eftir áhugasömum byggingaraðilum fyrir byggingu fjölbýlishúss á Sléttuvegi í desember. Tekin verður afstaða til umsókna sem bárust á næstu dögum en vonir standa til að framkvæmdir við það hús, sem mun telja á bilinu 16-20 íbúðir, geti hafist um mitt þetta ár. Framkvæmdir við Sléttuveg hafa gengið nokkuð vel og vonir standa til að þær íbúðir sem Brák leigufélagið festir kaup á á Sléttuvegi 3a verði tilbúnar í byrjun júní. Sveitarfélagið hefur einnig hafið samstarf við Arkitektafélag Íslands um hugmyndasamkeppni fyrir deiliskipulag nýs íbúðahverfis í austurhluta bæjarins. Samkeppnin felst í því að áhugasömum aðilum sem uppfylla ákveðnar hæfniskröfur verður boðið að senda inn tillögur að skipulagi fyrir svæði sem dómnefnd mun taka afstöðu til. Verðlaun verða í boði fyrir þrjú efstu sætin og samið verður við vinningshafa um gerð endanlegs deiliskipulags.
Sveitarfélagið fékk samþykkta endurvottun jafnlaunakerfis í desember að lokinni úttekt og uppfyllir þannig ákvæði laga um jafnan rétt kynjanna.

The mayor's main tasks since the last meeting of the local council have been related to the preparation of the 2024 projects, and a considerable amount of time has also been spent on issues related to waste collection. It has been disappointing that the service provider has not been able to adhere to the garbage collection calendar and there has been little information given to the municipality when something has gone wrong. The mayor has been in regular contact with the service provider and has called for the provision of information to the municipality and residents to be greatly improved. In this way, brochures will be distributed to all households with detailed instructions on the classification and organization of waste collection, and the company will set up a page on Facebook where information can be shared with residents as needed. Dissatisfaction with the service has been noticed among residents, and it is important to respond with improved information and that the service lives up to expectations and that the garbage collection calendar is followed.
The preparation of tenders for this year's works has begun in collaboration with planning and construction representative, and it is hoped that it will be possible to send out price inquiries in a timely manner with the aim of securing a contractor for the works. There are some projects on this year's schedule for which it was not possible to get a contractor last year, which is why emphasis will be placed on the tender documents being ready in time.
Improvements to the facilities of the sports center and swimming pool have been ongoing under the supervision of the youth and leisure representative. New covers have been installed in the swimming pool area and new chlorine pumps have been installed in the plumbing space to ensure the correct amount of chlorine in the water. Containers for the temporary gym expansion have arrived and will be attached to the existing facility soon. New running boards will be installed and the equipment on the viewing stands in the gymnasium will be removed. Preparations are being made to install a new camera system to better ensure the safety of pool guests. A new heat pump has arrived and will hopefully be connected soon, and it is hoped that this addition will largely prevent the heating problems that have arisen in the past. It is clear, however, that the plumbing system in the swimming pool area is not good enough, and a plan must be made to improve it for the future if the system is to function properly.
The music school has started well and at the beginning of this year there are 70 students registered at the school, which is a big increase from what it has been. The recruitment of teachers at the school has been successful and the latest addition is a piano teacher who will be part-time at the school.
Services at the kindergarten have temporarily had to be reduced due to personnel, but that decision was made after consultation with the parents of the school's children, where they were presented with different designs and invited to vote for the design that suited the most people. It is hoped that this reduction will not have to last longer than 6 weeks, but jobs are being advertised at the school, although it is difficult to predict how successful the recruitment will be, especially due to the lack of residential accommodation for those who may want to move to the municipality.
The moving of the first phase of the new kindergarten has been delayed due to the need to make structural improvements in part of the building in order for it to meet the requirements due to snow load. The move is currently entirely dependent on the weather, but it is hoped that the aforementioned improvements can be made quickly and efficiently and that a window will open weather-wise to move the house.
Negotiations have been ongoing with the contractor regarding the construction of the kindergarten site of the new kindergarten, but it is most desirable that this work can be carried out mostly until the summer when the school is closed.
The municipality and the Housing and Civil Engineering Agency (HMS) advertised for interested contractors for the construction of an apartment building on Sléttuvegur in December. A position will be taken on the applications received in the next few days, but it is hoped that construction on the building, which will have between 16-20 apartments, can begin in the middle of this year. The construction works at Sléttuvegur have gone quite well, and it is hoped that the apartments that Brák leigufélag (non-profit rental agency) will purchase on Sléttuvegur 3a will be ready at the beginning of June. The municipality has also started a collaboration with the Architect Association of Íslands on an idea competition for the zoning of a new residential area in the eastern part of the town. The competition invites interested parties who meet certain qualification requirements to submit planning proposals for an area that will be decided by a panel of judges. Prizes will be offered for the top three places, and the final zoning plan will be negotiated with the winner.
The municipality received an approved re-certification of the equal pay system in December after an audit and thus complies with the provisions of the law on equal rights of the sexes.
